✏️ Writers Workshop in 4th Grade! 🦅📚

Our 4th Grade writers are immersed in Workshop, beginning with a Connection to activate prior learning, a clear Teaching Point, and Active Engagement as students practice the skill with their teacher. Students then Link the teaching point to their own writing before being released to work independently on their personal narratives.

As students write, the teacher works 1:1 with individual students, providing personalized feedback, coaching, and support right where it is needed.

The Workshop Model helps students:

✍️ Develop their own authentic writing voice
🧠 Apply skills through meaningful, independent practice
🎯 Receive targeted, individualized feedback
📈 Build confidence and independence as writers
💡 Learn to revise, edit, and strengthen their writing
📚 View writing as a process of planning, drafting, revising, and reflecting

At Euclid, we believe great writing instruction combines strong teacher modeling and direct instruction with time for students to write, think, create, and grow as authors.

Our Eagles are finding their voices—and putting them on paper! 🦅✏️

🦅 Learning in Action at Euclid! 📚

Our Kindergarten through 3rd Grade teachers are working individually with students to administer the DIBELS assessment.

📖 What is DIBELS?
DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is a set of brief, research-based assessments that help teachers monitor the development of foundational reading skills. Through 1:1 assessment, teachers gather information about skills such as phonemic awareness, phonics, word reading, accuracy, fluency, and early reading development.

The information gathered helps our teachers:
✅ Identify students' reading strengths
✅ Recognize areas where additional instruction may be needed
✅ Monitor progress throughout the school year
✅ Provide targeted, evidence-based support
✅ Make informed instructional decisions

🔎 Supporting New Jersey's Dyslexia Screening Requirements

New Jersey's dyslexia legislation emphasizes early identification of students who may be at risk for dyslexia and other reading difficulties. DIBELS is one of the tools schools can use as part of a broader system of screening and progress monitoring to identify students who may need additional support.

At Euclid, these assessments are an important part of our commitment to early identification, early intervention, and ensuring that every child develops the strong foundational literacy skills needed to become a successful reader.

We are proud of the work our teachers do every day to know our students, understand their needs, and help every Eagle soar! 🦅📚

📚 Learning in Action at Euclid! 🦅

This week, our 3rd and 4th graders completed the LinkIt! Form A assessments in ELA and Math, while our 5th graders completed Form A assessments in ELA, Math, and Science.

These assessments provide our teachers with valuable information about what our students know and are ready to learn next. 📊

The data from LinkIt! helps our teachers:
✅ Identify student strengths and areas for growth
✅ Monitor individual student progress
✅ Identify students who may benefit from additional support or enrichment
✅ Inform small-group instruction and targeted teaching
✅ Help teachers adjust instruction based on student needs
✅ Track growth over time and support data-informed decision-making

At Euclid, assessment is more than a test—it’s another tool that helps us know our students, understand their learning, and provide the instruction they need to grow.

Great work, Eagles! Keep learning, growing, and soaring! 🦅📚

Today, our Aviators came together for class meetings focused on setting the tone for a successful school year and what it means to be a proud member of the HHHS community.

We reviewed our school expectations, discussed our Profile of a Graduate, and introduced our new PBIS school motto:

AVIATORS HAVE HEART

H — Honor
E — Empathy
A — Accountability
R — Respect
T — Trustworthiness

These values represent who we are and, more importantly, who we want our students to become. Our goal is to prepare every Aviator not only for success in high school, but for success beyond our walls.

Here’s to a great year, Aviators!

Have HEART. Make an impact. Fly together.
